THIRTY-six Year 9 students representing six schools participated in the preliminary rounds for the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Faraday Do-It-Yourself Challenge recently at KB Sentral Shopping Centre. St John’s School, Chung Hua Middle School (Kuala Belait), International School Brunei, St George’s School, Muda Hashim Secondary School and Sayyidina Ali Secondary School sent in the participants. The winners were Chung Hua Middle School, St George’s School and St John’s School. They received BND200 per team as well as certificates.

Presenting the prizes was Lieutenant Colonel (U) Schufin bin Haji Brahim, the IET Brunei Darussalam Honorary Chairman for 2017-2018 Session. The winning teams will proceed to the National Faraday Final Challenge on September 2 at Aman Hills Shopping Centre.

The aim of the activity is to give students the opportunity to research, design and make prototype solutions of tough engineering problems. This is in-line with the IET Brunei vision and mission in promoting the general advancement of science, engineering and technology and to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas on these subjects among the general public, especially students. The challenge is based on a similar programme held at secondary schools in the United Kingdom.
