Exec member, Lim Yew Kee, was invited by Assoc. Prof Ir Dr. Vinesh Thiruchelvam, Head of Engineering School, Asia Pacific University (APU) Malaysia, to deliver Technical Talks to its engineering staffs and students on 18th June 2014. This event is sponsored by the IET Manufacturing Technical and Professional Network UK.

 

APU is a private university and is within the Asia Pacific Institution of Technology (APIIT) Education Group and is one of Malaysia largest education groups addressing all levels of education. APU having well-established engineering programmes with international partnerships. There is another new additional to APU’s faculties having a new ultra-modern campus to be opened in 2015.

 

The Technical Talk was entitled “Pneumatic and Hydraulic Engineering”.



In this talk, an overview on how both the Pneumatic and Hydraulic systems that uses fluids as working media to convert potential energy of fluids into compressed working fluids, to produce mechanical motion that drive linear mechanism and rotary actuators.

 

A summarized presentation was also shared with the audiences on variety of common symbol of components symbols, e.g. pumps, pilot-operated valves, actuators, flow control gates, electromechanically control valves and etc.

 

He has drawn attention to some importance on the emerged safety condition on electromechanically control valves, advantages and disadvantages on both the pneumatic system circuits and hydraulic system circuits, common occurrences in circuits malfunction and basic construction of fluid power systems.

 

Conclusion, the attendances to this technical talk were 56 participants of engineering staffs and students, a lively exchange of technical ideas in the Q&A session.
