Many engineers or technicians will find that career progression brings with it a level of management responsibility.  Developing the knowledge and skills to succeed in such a role is an important part of continuing professional development.

A management qualification gives the practical skills and knowledge to undertake or develop into a management role which allows engineers to not only consolidate previous experience but also maintain competence.  A recognised qualification can help to maintain employability in a competitive market as it provides evidence of this knowledge for promotion or transition into a new role.  It can also boost your confidence in management relationships and give greater self-awareness as you carry out this type of role.

IET/CMI Management Courses

The IET has joined with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) to provide fast track courses in Management and Leadership to IET Members who have achieved professional registration.  Specifically mapped to UK-SPEC, these qualifications allows professionally registered members to gain exemption from some of the modules to achieve a recognised management qualification.

The Level 3 qualification in First Line Management is mapped for EngTech and is suited to those who are new to management or those who want to increase their understanding and abilities as their career progresses.

The Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership is mapped for both IEng and CEng and provides members with key management skills that will enable them to operate more effectively as managers and leaders.
