Rich Baker and Geoff Kermode presented the latest instalment of the IET Tribology Tour in the Innovation Centre of the Northern Ireland Science Park last month. The Tribology Tour bringing Tribology to life by showing how Tribology underpins so many essential aspects of our technology and quality of life. It also provides an introduction to the concepts and principles underpinning Tribology and shows how modern techniques can be used to optimise a wide variety of mechanical interfaces, from hard drives to wind turbines and hip joints.

The audience reacted very positively to the interactive challenges posed during the presentation. This led on to an invigorating open discussion on many aspects of Tribology which continued after 9pm! A real highlight was that several audience members formed new professional connections during this event. From the IET’s point of view, this really shows that we have not only brought Tribology to life, we are also on the way to forming a living network which enables connections between researchers and engineers in industry.

Thanks to Rich, Geoff and the Tribology Network for giving the lecture, to NISP as hosts and to all those in attendance.
