As a department, we offer a range of products and services designed to assist IET members and those supporting them (e.g. employers, line managers, mentors, etc.) with managing professional development for a successful and rewarding career. We are always on hand to help with any queries about professional development.
Our products and services
Initial Professional Development (IPD)
The period of professional development when working towards Professional Registration (CEng, IEng, EngTech or ICTTech) is referred to as IPD. Register for our IPD service to receive support and information and guidance along the way. You can register for the service using IET Career Manager.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
CPD is a professional obligation for all IET members, as set out in the IET’s Rules of Conduct. The IET support members with structuring their professional development to help them achieve their professional goals faster and more effectively.
Mentoring Service
A ‘by members for members’ service – apply for an IET mentor to support you with your professional registration, or, apply to become a volunteer mentor and support others in achieving their goals.
Career Manager
Our online professional development planning and recording tool, which can be used to manage your IPD, prepare and submit your application for Professional Registration, as well as plan and manage your CPD records.
Lifeskills workshops
Working with our Local Networks around the UK, we run Lifeskills Workshops on subjects such as presentation skills, negotiation, change management, etc. Visit your Local Network community for details of workshops happening near you. We also offer some lifeskills topics as webinars.
Training Courses
A range of courses covering professional skills such as management, finance, negotiation and technical writing as well as mentoring, standards, contract law and project management. Many courses can also be run in-company.
