The group, led by Jevons Quaimbao Penaflor, aimed to get a first-hand experience on Brunei’s Cement Production Industry and learn about the processes involved.

During the visit, BHC gave a brief presentation on the general processes and the technical aspects involved in cement production. The group were then given a tour around the main production sites such as the quality control lab, control centre, cement finish mill, the silo storage area, packing area and storage areas.

They were also given the opportunity to oversee the BHC crew in action and even got to ask the operators questions relating to their work, and the skills needed to handle critical cement production processes at the plant.

Butra HeidelbergCement is Brunei’s first and sole “finish mill” cement plant which produces 70 per cent of the cement needs in Brunei. They produce good quality Ordinary Portland cement and imports oil-well cement to supply to Brunei’s construction and oil and gas industry respectively.

I2SC is a student engineering body under the purview of The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) which was established at Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB), which serves as a platform for ITB students to engage and experience current engineering practices whilst promoting science, engineering and technology to the general public.

In addition to that, the I2SC also aim to promote and encourage professional development through technical knowledge sharing and professional networking. — Obelina Wang
