The Amazing Arm Competition 2020
1. Background
IET UNM Student Chapter was established in 2017. The University of Nottingham is the very first British university to open a branch in Malaysia. The first branch opened in 2000 at the center of Kuala Lumpur. In 2005, the university opened the purpose-built campus which is now the main campus in Semenyih. As of the year 2020, the campus celebrates its 20th anniversary.
The academic year consists of 2 semesters, and each runs for 3 months. The intakes are usually in September for undergraduate courses while foundation courses are in April as well September. The summer break is from June until September and during this period is when undergraduate students go for their internship and industry placement. The university offers courses in diverse field. It has 4 main faculty, namely Engineering, Science, Arts and Social Science, as well as Business. Currently, University of Nottingham Malaysia has around 5000 students, from 75 different countries. Given the diversity, all cultures and traditions are openly accepted and embraced by all.
The campus is surrounded by forest and hills. It is 5 minutes away from the popular Broga Hills by car. Nearby the campus are developing townships and commercial centers. Although Semenyih is considered a small township, it has a lot of good and affordable restaurants. Kuala Lumpur city center is also relatively easy to be accessed by the transport services provided by the university. The campus is also conveniently accessible for international students, as it is only 45 minutes away from KLIA by car.
