The IET South Yorkshire Local Network will be helping students discover engineering at the Engineering Extravaganza Monday 12th November, at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) in Rotherham.

The Engineering Extravaganza is run by the IET, IMechE, ICE, IChemE and IOM3 with Tomorrow’s Engineers, and is designed to encourage 12-14 year-olds to take up a career in engineering.

Volunteers from each institution will lead engineering activities designed to give students hands on experience of different engineering disciplines.  In the  IET activity student will engineer a vacuum tube train and learn about the forces interacting with their models.

No experience is necessary; a full briefing will be given to all volunteers. Volunteers will be needed between 9.00 and 15.00.

Andrew Ellwood and Layla Graham are the volunteer IET Schools Liaison Officers for South Yorkshire. They work with schools and young people to promote a better understanding of engineering and engineering careers.
