A Sussex Railway Pioneer
During August we had the delight (and exhaustion) of having our Daughter and two Grandchildren from California stay with us for three weeks. During their stay they rode on quite a number of trains, from the South Downs Light Railway to the Eurostar to Rotterdam to visit their cousin. Included in that list was the Volk’s Electric Railway (VER) that runs along Brighton seafront from the Palace Pier to the Marina, a distance of about one and a half kilometres. The Volk’s Electric Railway is claimed to be the oldest electric railway in the world. It is certainly still transporting people (with a high percentage of children) along the seafront, between the promenade and the beach.
