Eur Ing: 1996 After graduation from Plymouth Polytechnic in 1985 I worked as a hardware and software design engineer developing radio modems and newspaper image storage systems in England before moving to Ulm in Germany in 1987. In 1988 I joined a 5 man start-up & still work for the same company, now with 100 employees and owned by a larger industrial automation company. We specialise in cameras and components for the image processing market.   • Technical Visit To Bukit Panggal Power Station

    Saturday, 2 Mar 2019, Bandar Seri Begawan – The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Brunei Local Network has recently organized a technical visit to Bukit Panggal Power Station. The objectives of the visit are to observe the operation of the power station and to understand further how this power station generates electricity to the public especially to the Tutong District. A total of 14 IET Members and 3 non-IET members joined the technical visit. Upon arrival, the group was welcomed by the Head of Bukit Panggal Power Section, Muhd Syafiq bin Haji Badar.     Now is the time for organisations operating in developed markets to sit up and pay attention to the Internet of Things (IoT), says expert Dr Rishi Mohan Bhatnagar.   Dr Bhatnagar is President of IoT solutions company Aeris Communications and also chairs the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s specialist panel, which organises an annual IoT Congress in India. Having seen the evolution of connected technology in India, Dr Bhatnagar insists that in 2019, “IoT is business as usual and will be the driver of significant competitive advantage.” In the past few years, it’s been emerging markets such as India that have invested heavily in IoT, but Dr Bhatnagar thinks that times are changing.  He considers where IoT is in the ‘hype cycle’, the life cycle that a technology goes through from initial…

  • Big Bang Fair 2019 – Volunteer With Us

    We'll be exhibiting at the Big Bang Fair Wednesday 13 March - Saturday 16 March with hands-on activities designed to give young people a taste of engineering. How can you help? We are looking for enthusiastic members who can volunteer for a day to help us run the hands-on activities on the IET stand. No experience is necessary, we'll give you a full briefing each morning of the fair. We hope to have enough volunteers to give everyone a chance to explore the fair.     On the 5th - 6th January 2019, the IET YPS in Malaysia organized a fun-filled team building event at the Carpe Diem Orchard Home in Serendah.   • [YPS, Southampton And UCSI] IET-KPMG Cyber Security Challenge

    On the 28 th  November 2018, IET Malaysia Network has partnered up with KPMG Risk and Management to organize the first KPMG-IET Cybertechnology Challenge. The event was held at a shared venue, where KPMG is organizing their KPMG Cybersecurity Challenge National Finals concurrently.  In the KPMG-IET Cybertechnology challenge, participants are challenged to solve various puzzles in a virtual “escape room” scenario, passing through various levels before finally hacking into an IET themed IoT safe box and opening it from the inside. The challenge was participated by 40 students, forming 8 teams of 5 students each.     Introducing automation into a smaller scale production environment can be difficult. Here we look at the five basic stages of an automation project: Stage 1 – Identify. Stage 2 – Develop & Finance. Stage 3 – Build. Stage 4 – Commission. Stage 5 – Run & monitor.   As the Project Leader for a manufacturing facility, I get to come up with and implement all sorts of projects – Lean, Excellence, Quality, Asset Replacement etc. The one type of project I have always had problems with is Automation.
