BAE System's Submarines Academy for Skills and Knowledge (SASK), Barrow-in-Furness successfully hosted the 6th Road to Engineering event which took place over three action-packed days. Over 200 children from the Furness area participated in the event which aims to inspire future careers in Engineering. This year's theme was 'Adapt and Change' following the British Science week theme.
Supporting the event were the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, Barrow District of Associate Engineers and the Royal Institute of Naval Architects who contributed valuable insight, merchandise and STEM packs for schools.

Stephen Rowe, Project Director of Engineering Transformation said, "It was a privilege to attend the Road to Engineering event and support the Ormsgill Junior School team through their 6 exciting workshop experiences. The kids' behaviour and turnout was incredible and it filled me with hope knowing that some of these talented participants will be the submarines builders of the future while others succeed in careers that support the local prosperity. I can't thank all the kids that participated, their teaching staff and our graduates and apprentices enough for making this event so special"
Children were able to enjoy a variety of hands-on workshops including Roving Robots, Solar Cars, F1 Crash impact investigations, robotic arm programming and Sphero robot activities. The event also featured a nuclear educational activity, an amazing Science Made Simple show on sound and electro-magnetic waves and an interactive Q&A session with Royal Navy representatives.

Lily Melvin, Road to Engineering Lead said, "This year's Road to Engineering was a massive success - we saw almost 100 kids per day over the course of 3 days, all of which entered and left in high spirits. The contributions of the strategic people capability team, the SASK facilities, education services, the photographer, various activity providers (such as Science Made Simple, Capgemini and the Navy) and Road to Engineering stretch teams (including the volunteers that are essential in guaranteeing a successful event) all played a huge role in the success of the event and ensured that Road to Engineering 2025 will be remembered as co-ordinated, inspirational and fun!"
