Change of career which is not engineering related, should i keep IET membership and how?

Hello All Engineer,

I am seeking some pointer and direction about keeping my IET membership.

Recently due to personal calling, i decided to switch my career from engineering to administration role. I done this purely of my believe in the state of mental health of many people in UK and the world. In fact, our next major event was to openly talk about death, which is to my surpise, no one (organisation or not) wants to talk about it. My role now is making sure the charity provide meditation, retereat and open space activities to help people in this unfamiliar subject. It is a charity and I am volunteerin without pay. I do not see myself going back in Engineering, but engineering will be a hobby rather then a job. The other reason was, none of the charity or any body that I am working with will be interested to sponsor with anything I have about engineering. Hence the question, should i even keep my IET membership?

Thank you in advance for any suggestion and help.

Kind Regards

Mr Chong

  • Hi Mr Chong,

    Thank you for reaching out.

Our membership base consists of those that not only work in engineering, but also those who have a passive interest in it. We have members that work in the sector and those who no longer work within engineering.

We are more than happy to support you in keeping your membership and would like to discuss this further with you.

I would be happy to set up a call with a member of the team to discuss your specific circumstances, if you could private message us with your membership number.

I look forward to hearing back from you.
