Guidance on Development Action Plan for IEng Application

Dear Community,

I am in the process of preparing my IEng application and although the Development Action Plan (DAP) is optional, I would like to include one in my submission to demonstrate my commitment to continuous professional development.

I would be grateful if anyone could share guidance or examples of what should be incorporated in a strong DAP. In particular, I am keen to understand how best to structure it and the type of development goals (technical, management, leadership, or professional) that assessors find most relevant.

Any advice, examples, or personal experiences would be very much appreciated.

    Absolutely, the advice we have been given is:

    "The DAP will be discussed at Interview through a question."

    As a pre-interview assessor/moderator, if there is a DAP with the application I will always look at it and comment if it seems appropriate and helpful.  It is my understanding that at the interview the DAP will be discussed in the context of continuing professional development (CPD), which is a sub-competence that is assessed.

If you haven't seen it already, you'll see why I suggest that when you see the discussion so far on DAP in the context of the assessment of CPD.

    Thank you for clarifying. I believe it is worthwhile to submit my DAP, as it can add value to my application and demonstrate my commitment to CPD

    And, if you can, get a PRA or a good supporter to 'challenge' you on the DAP to make sure that it comes across well (is_understandable) and actually reflects your desired development Grin. 

    Talking to another real person is far more use that frustratedly talking to yourself and a computer screen Scream
