    Hello all,

My name is Yannick Gasnier, and I currently work in West Sussex as an electrical design engineer for the automotive industry. I have been working in the Field of Controls and Automation for over 10 years and have been a member of the IET for most of those years. I have recently undertaken software programming with the aim to be involved in robotics applications.

I am looking forward to getting more involved in this community as time goes by so looking forward to getting to know you all a bit better in the coming weeks and months!

    Best regards,

    Yannick

    Hi, I'm David,

I'm self-employed and a part-time PhD student, and something of what I do for a living can be gleaned from the links above.

At the moment I'm contracted to Perkins Engines (Caterpillar / CAT Electronics) working on engine control systems. I'm specifically interested in and working on:

    • NOx and particulate chemistry & physics to inform model based engine control strategies.

    • Signal processing and statistical methods for engine instrumentation data analysis.

    • FMEA for engine safety & regulatory compliance.

    • Software engineering for robust real-time embedded control.

I'm startting to re-engage with the IET and I'm attending a  PRA training course in London on 11th April 2018. So hopefully I can start to be of some use to other people!

    All the very best,

    David

  • Welcome to the Community David and I look forward to you sharing your experiences and contributing further.
  • Blimey Joanne, that was quick!

I think one immediate thing that is on my mind for all sorts of reasons and  that might be of help to people just starting out is that you don't have to follow the standard career arc (junior, senior, principal engineer, management grades etc). There is the increasing wages imperative, of course: we all mostly need to put a roof over our heads and bread on the table and all that isn't likely to get any cheaper. But you can, with a bit of luck, follow a slightly different path.

I've never really had a career that you could draw an upwards curve through. But I have had a load of really interesting jobs. And these days with the OU, Coursera, and the traditional universities and colleges catering for various flavours of part-time learning it has never been easier to keep moving and learning, I think.

    Cheers

    David

  • Hi David,

  • Hi Chris

    Thanks! that will be good.

    All the best

    Hello Everyone,
My name is Ejay and I currently work as a Senior Scientist in the field of Process Analytics within the formulations platform at The Centre For Process Innovation (CPI). The role sees me work closely in the areas of Process Analytical Technology (PAT), measurement approaches & techniques applied to pharma, homecare and food products. In addition to this, I am also involved in signal processing and algorithm development, chemometric modelling and advanced process control.

Before taking up my current role, I worked in various projects which saw me develop algorithms which could feature extract key indicators from acquired process data and give indications on the structural health of various materials, condition monitoring of rotating machinery and process monitoring of mixing/agglomeration processes.

More recently as part of a PhD programme, I developed a method of non-invasively inspecting the quality of powders in real time for a home care based product using Acoustic Emission sensing (high-frequency sound waves). Prior to that, I was a key player in the development of the UK’s first non-contact inline magnetometer based sensor for pipeline inspections in the oil and gas sector.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Master’s in Control Systems and PhD in Process Measurement and Instrumentation.
….I look forward to learning and sharing ideas with all of the bright people within the group.
    Regards
    Dr.Ejay Nsugbe
