Machinery Safety - is the Pilz/TUV CMSE course recognised within industry?

Hi All,

I have been looking for a course for myself and a few of my colleagues with regards to machinery safety etc. because we manufacture in-house test rigs and production machinery  - although we CE mark these we could all do with some more advanced training in safety & legislation.

I have found a 'CMSE' (Certified Machinery Safety Expert) course provided by Pilz and certified by TUV - has anyone heard of or completed this course?

Is there an alternative to this?

Your help would be much appreciated - Thanks
  • Hi Paul,

I realise this is an old post but did you complete the course or any alternatives? Looking for any opinions if anyone else has taken this course and can comment.

I have done the CMSE course, and IMHO it is recognised and worthwhile.

There are others, my re-cert is up in the new year, and I intend to do that, as long as my health holds up.

For what I do I am also looking at the TUV FSEng course, probably through Rockwell.

I think there are slight differences and also that the courses complement each other.

HSE also do a 4 day series on machinery which is good for beginners.

The CMSE & FSEng are not entry level courses.

They also do not give you all the skills and competence you need, but they do give a good understanding of the basics legislation etc. upon which to start building your competence.
  • Thanks Paul. Hoping to get the opportunity to take it in the new year, all being well.
