Smallest Rolls-Royce unveiled...

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars have unveiled a new model, crafted for one very special customer: St Richard's Hospital paediatric day surgery unit in the marque's home town of Chichester, West Sussex. The Rolls-Royce SRH will allow children awaiting surgery to drive themselves to the operating theatre, through the Paediatric Unit corridors which are lined with ‘traffic signs’. The experience of ‘self-drive to theatre’ aims to reduce child patient stress.

This is such a lovely idea, and all the nicer for the fact that the bespoke manufacturing team spent more than 400 hours of their own time developing and hand-crafting the car, with the aim of soothing children’s nerves before surgery. Well done to Rolls-Royce and the fantastic engineers who developed this with a view of making life just that little bit nicer for some very poorly children. I hope that other hospitals take up similar schemes.

Are there any other engineering solutions that you think could be employed in hospitals to help alleviate pre-op stress?

  • This is a wonderful idea and I hope it takes off and inspires other car companies to follow suite in other parts of the globe.  The RR staff who came up with this idea and devoted their own time to work on this project are to be commended.
