Rolls-Royce Motor Cars have unveiled a new model, crafted for one very special customer: St Richard's Hospital paediatric day surgery unit in the marque's home town of Chichester, West Sussex. The Rolls-Royce SRH will allow children awaiting surgery to drive themselves to the operating theatre, through the Paediatric Unit corridors which are lined with ‘traffic signs’. The experience of ‘self-drive to theatre’ aims to reduce child patient stress.
This is such a lovely idea, and all the nicer for the fact that the bespoke manufacturing team spent more than 400 hours of their own time developing and hand-crafting the car, with the aim of soothing children’s nerves before surgery. Well done to Rolls-Royce and the fantastic engineers who developed this with a view of making life just that little bit nicer for some very poorly children. I hope that other hospitals take up similar schemes.
