Machine Tool installations

I am investigating how machine tool installations should be tested and inspected. I have asked several equipment manufacturers about test certificates and they look at me blankly. In general what I have found is that the supply is tested and certified to the isolator/switchfuse feeding the machine but when the equipment is connected, there is no testing carried out on the actual kit. Does anybody have any thoughts/experience in this area. This also covers periodic inspection. I have used BS EN 60204 as a basis when I have discussed with Machine tool manufacturers.

  • Assuming (always dangerous) that you are in the UK the guiding documents would be the Machinery Directive for the machine itself and the  Provision and use of Work Equipment Regulations for its maintenance and use. Machine tools may also have their own specific standards as a subset of these two main documnets.
