IET Membership Renewal or not

Hi All,

I have been a member of IET for over 15 years now and have earned the title of CEng around 4 years back.

While I was in UK (until 2014), I was quite active in the IET community but in 2014 when I relcoated to UAE, I couldnt find any local network however have always renewed my membership but must admit havent really gained anything from IET membership at all.

I have just moved to Paris for a contract job (until March-19, due to extend further in Dec'18) and I am not sure if I should renew my IET Membership as not sure what benefit I will get out of it.

I have been working on Engineering Design Systems in Oil & Gas industry for last 10 years and cant see how my IET Membership helps in there, in fact even CEng hasnt given me any benefit yet.

Am I missing something?

Appreciate your comments/replies/Suggestions

Thanks

  • I suspect it's all down to whether or not CEng is useful to you.  If you give up your IET membership, then the CEng will also lapse - unless you switch to another institution.

Ultimately, it's just a badge to say "I am a qualified engineer".  It may get you an interview that you wouldn't otherwise have got.  Or it might not.  It's hard to tell.
