IET Membership Renewal or not

Hi All,

I have been a member of IET for over 15 years now and have earned the title of CEng around 4 years back.

While I was in UK (until 2014), I was quite active in the IET community but in 2014 when I relcoated to UAE, I couldnt find any local network however have always renewed my membership but must admit havent really gained anything from IET membership at all.

I have just moved to Paris for a contract job (until March-19, due to extend further in Dec'18) and I am not sure if I should renew my IET Membership as not sure what benefit I will get out of it.

I have been working on Engineering Design Systems in Oil & Gas industry for last 10 years and cant see how my IET Membership helps in there, in fact even CEng hasnt given me any benefit yet.

Am I missing something?

Appreciate your comments/replies/Suggestions

Thanks

  • Hi Varun Sharma‍

The IET does in fact have a presence in the UAE as part of the PCEUAE group (Professional Chartered Engineers in the United Arab Emirates). PCEUAE is collaborative group sponsored by both the IMechE and the IET and has been in existence for many years now (at least the 15 years I've been at the IET as I used to be their IET Staff Contact many years ago!)  Their activities can be found on their website at https://www.pceuae.com

Now that you are located in France, as my colleague Rob says, there is an IET Local Network in France and their online community can be found here IET France Online

If you join their online community, you can receive email notifications when new events are added into their calendar as well as start and join in with topics in their discussion forum and read their blog posts etc.

    Hope that helps? smiley
