Professional Registration Application - Accountability Diagrams

Hi,

I was hoping someone could provide some guidance or suggestions concerning the accountability diagrams for the CEng Application Form.

Firstly, my organisation is international in nature and operates a matrix based structure. We have two possible accountability "streams": geographical and technical.

Geographical would best be described as the more traditional structure and is the part of the organisation that is contained within a particular geographical location or department e.g. I would be accountable to my line manager, my line manager accountable to the department head, department head accountable to country manager, etc.

Technical would best be described as across the technical areas of the organisation i.e. I would be accountable to my line manager, line manager is accountable to the technical head, technical head is accountable to technical director, etc.

What do you recommend is the best way of dealing with this situation? Should I use the geographical (traditional) accountability structure or the technical?

Secondly, and unfortunately, I sit at the "bottom" of the matrix structure and therefore, it is difficult for me to demonstrate two levels of accountability below me. I have two distinct levels above me in the traditional, geographical stream (line manager and department head).

To demonstrate levels "below" me, I feel I would have to describe colleagues from across the technical parts of the organisation (i.e. expert/HQ technical support that I can request technical queries, work packages, etc, who could then be described as "accountable" to me) or external to the organisation (i.e. sub contractors or suppliers, who could also be described as "accountable" to me).

Do you have any suggestions as to how to deal with this?

Look forward to your response!

Graeme.

  • Graeme,

I would recommend that you include all of those that are relevant to your application, if this is more complex than the simpler five boxes (2 above/2 below) then I would suggest you use this and include those that are specifically related to your most recent role.

I would also suggest that you speak to a PRA before you submit the final application, to get clarification.
