This is Vijay pursuing my Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from India . Before proceeding further I admit that actually I am not supposed to join this network but my keen interest to join this network was I am amazed to see so many of them are in great profession.
I am a person doesn't believe in male dominant society . Everyone has to support each othe for a prosperous future . In my personal opinion Women are an important element of our Society. The modern society has started recognizing the individual identity of women. She is believed to have her aspiration, abilities and qualities as a man does have and it is also agreed that she should have the opportunities to develop her faculties and to express them according to her own choice.Women can help the society in various ways. They can engage in social activities and work for the betterment of the society.
Looking forward to someone who can help me out by being a mentor for my professional development
I would just like to make it clear that whilst this group is called the ''Women's Network'', men are also encouraged to join. It's great to have your support!
Would you be able to e-mail me at womensnetwork@theiet.org and I can put you in contact with the right people for mentoring?

I have a real passion for my work and have always genuinely loved being an electrician
My name is Jan. I am from the University of Liverpool. I have just completed my PhD in Engineering (Materials Science). I will be pursuing a career in teaching as part of the Researchers in School programme. Being a STEM and LivWISE ambassador, I have set myself a goal to encourage young women to pursue a career in science and engineering. My role as a teacher will provide me with the platform I need, having the greatest impact in the lives of my future students. I hope that through this vast network I will be able to find comrades who share the same ambitions as me. :-)
I am Jaina, based in Ipswich. I work in BT as a Network Designer, designing IP and Ethernet networks. Its great to see many women in technology roles. Hoping to meet you all someday for any IET events.
Lou: I don't think that being passionate about your career sounds lame at all! In fact toiling at a job that doesn't fire your enthusiasm; that has to be really lame...
Jan: Fantastic! We really need more people like you to enthuse the next generation of female engineers. I love my engineering career, but after nearly 27 years I am contemplating moving into teaching for similar reasons. The problem is that I just can't handle the drop in income especially while I retrain!
Welcome everybody!! It's great to see so many new introductions.
Thank you for taking the time to join the IET Women's Network. I advertise lots of different opportunities via the discussion, events and blog areas, so keep a look out for things that come up or that already exist and e-mail me at womensnetwork@theiet.org if you would like to get involved!
I am currently based at Bristol and working as a research associate in Surgical Robotics at the Bristol Robotics Lab. I am very close to going through my PhD viva which is very scary!
I love research in Engineering and especially in Robotics and I am currently developing a tele-operation system for application in robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery. I am focusing in natural and dexterous manipulation where the surgeon will have a short learning process. I am hoping that I can take my research projects further to be realised in the future.
It's great to be part of such an aspiring community!
