New fire detection ???

Hi guys. I see there is a new code of practice for fire alarms. Iv not a chance to look into this yet and i wondered what were the main changes relating to domestic properties and new builds. Thanks guys

  • Principle changes as listed within the revised document:
    • removal of Grades B and E

    • subdivision of Grades D and F into D1/D2 and F1/F2

    • revision of Table 1 (grade selection table)

    • updating references to other standards (tidying up where references made to outdated documents)

    • new table on testing and servicing by grade

    • new recommendation to prevent blocking or delaying of FA signals transmitted via social alarm systems in sheltered housing

    • increase in recommended standard of protection in sheltered housing flats from LD2 to LD1

    • new recommendations for fire detection in supported housing

    • new recommendation that communal fire alarm systems should not normally be installed in purpose-built blocks of flats

    • revised and expanded recommendations for Grade C.


    No doubt there will be other small things dotted around the document but these are the one BSI are highlighting.
