That's interesting has we pay to have relevant standards online, I checked and the latest one was 2017...….think a phone call in the morning is in order!

  • once you have made the call, I;d be grateful if you could let us know if there is anything really serious changing, you know like call points to become blue, or extra detectors on the floor..

TBH, can't see much changing, maybe the use of metal fixings for support of cable?

Will see what I can find but really busy at present so may be awhile.

  • Thanks,  I did miss something !  So it was new last month. The BSI link to the new version has a very brief summary of the changes.
  • Principle changes as listed within the revised document:
    • removal of Grades B and E

    • subdivision of Grades D and F into D1/D2 and F1/F2

    • revision of Table 1 (grade selection table)

    • updating references to other standards (tidying up where references made to outdated documents)

    • new table on testing and servicing by grade

    • new recommendation to prevent blocking or delaying of FA signals transmitted via social alarm systems in sheltered housing

    • increase in recommended standard of protection in sheltered housing flats from LD2 to LD1

    • new recommendations for fire detection in supported housing

    • new recommendation that communal fire alarm systems should not normally be installed in purpose-built blocks of flats

    • revised and expanded recommendations for Grade C.

No doubt there will be other small things dotted around the document but these are the one BSI are highlighting.

  • Just received an email from BSI saying a 'Tracked Changes' copy of BS 5839-6:2019 is now available. I won't be downloading a copy myself but thought I would mention it for anyone who is interested.

    • New recommendation that communal fire alarm systems should not normally be installed in purpose-built blocks of flats

Is it me or does that sound potentially controversial?
