AFDD Installation - TPN Board

Has anyone installed AFDDs on a three phase board?

I'm looking at installing a DIN rail board underneath the TPN DB with a cable way in between and mounting the AFDDs within the DIN rail box,

Has anyone else installed them in this way?

Thanks
  • Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought that Arc fault detection devices were required for each individual final circuit. This seems like a poorly thought through addition to the electrical industry.

So it seems an advisary specification at present, a little like white road marking lines to provide disabled parking spaces.

I agree with you, at present they are difficult to install with three phase boards,

Unfortunately the client has specifically requested them ?

I'm trying to find an AFDD that is standalone, all of the ones I've researched so far require the RCBO/MCB to be attached
  • I spoke to Wylex earlier this year,  the double pole RCBOs that are compatible with the arc fault devices cannot be used in a three phase board as they do not have phase barriers.

  • So I  suggest that you forget the idea of installing AFD to a three phase board and install a single phase sub-distribution board with the combined RCBO AFD devices in it for each of the final circuits.

I've just heard the same thing from Crabtree (the same as Wylex I believe), we will be installing 3no SPN boards instead of the 1no TPN board,

I see Siemens make a 1 module AFDD/MCB combined, hopefully they are working on a AFDD/RCBO single module too
