There are lots of towel rail type wall mounted "oil" filled radiators available from many shops. They tend to be water filled these days. That is water with an additive which might be an anti-freeze/rust inhibitor mix. Follow the makers' instructions to the letter after fixing the brute to the wall. Some come pre-filled some don't. Do not run them dry after fixing, that will damage the heating element. Many require them to be heated up fully with a top mounted bleed valve open, then it is closed.

  • Thank you for the replies.

    1. I did goooogle for wall oil filled radiators. Not much out there.

    2. Can anyone throw any light on Rointe - I know these are 'solid' construction -, but, I'm interested in their reliability as I have read varying reports.

    3. Has anyone installed oil filled filled rads from a company called Adax? Again terested in relibility.

    Thanks for any help.

  • I fitted Rointes in a school building about 5 years ago, in daily use during heating season, still going strong
  • The old style oil filled radiators may not meet the Lot 20 requirements without updating and modifications.

  • Rointe have a 20 year body warranty.

So why choose a liquid filled wall heater rather than a simple convector heater? Are there advantages?

  • A more constant level of heat without the room temperature dipping and diving.

This is why I was looking at installing a wall mounted oil filled radiator. I believe the Adax units comply with Lot 20, which is why I was trying to find out more.

Thank you all for your help so far - the more information the better

Yeh but once the room walls have absorbed heat from any source the whole room will take a long time to cool down.  It acts like a storage system especially if made of bricks or blocks. I can't really see any advantage in having a liquid filled electric heater  compared to a simple inexpensive air heating convector. In fact the term oil filled radiator is a bit misleading, it convects heat more than radiates it. the term oil filled radiator is a misnomer. They might radiate a little more heat if painted black.
