For mapj1 #2

Thanks again Mike, got that now, exactly as you said, downloaded pic, wrote up short text, filled the 3 boxes, (I did wonder what they were for!), hit on the box with jagged edges/mountain scene. Hit update. Job done. Thanks again.

  • It sounds like a modern life skills tuition session.

I have come down to see my Dad and a street light is not working by where I parked and a large bush has grown around the column.

So I have just reported the unlit lamp on the county council website, located and marked it on a interactive map, described the access issue, then uploaded a photo so they know that they need to have a big saw to hand when they come to work on the street lighting column.

Reporting an unlit street light to the county council requires all the skills you need to use this forum,  though the IET website does have some funny quirks depending on which browser you use.

  • I will put you out of your misery Sparkingchip!

During the day, I Asked AJ Jewsbury for assistance to upload a document. But before Lisa Miles had moved it to

community support mapj1 noticed it and gave me a bit of guidance. However, as I said Lisa moved it and so it disappeared from the forum. (I still have it because Lisa sent me a personal message) But don't be jealous, its one of the benefits of working for one of the UKs great DNOs! I have since written a word of thanks to my dear new friend mapj1

    Regards, UKPN.?
  • cheers all. I do think the "how to use this forum software" type stuff needs to be in-line, not concealed in a separate place.

Next lesson will have to be how to send a private message....

    - click on my name anywhere it is blue, and on the page where that appears, click on 'send message

Avoids a load of Smaugtars comments from bystanders. With apologies to the NOTNOCN sketch of 'ask the family'

Of course, some time tomorrow this thread will also be moved.
  • I usually find that when you know what you doing someone goes and alters it

I tried to print a copy of my mobile phone bill today, a process that involves logging out of the WiFi, loading the app using the cellular connection, then finding the document and downloading it as a pdf. before logging back into the WiFi to be able to use the printer to get it onto the paper.

Well that’s how it worked in the past, but not today,I gave up and wrote it out longhand on the piece of paper.

  • I’m using several browsers to use this forum, on some I can paste straight into the message box, but one of them if I want to paste I have to open a box and paste the text into that to get it into the message.

Lots of little quirks that I just end up working around without paying much attention to them anymore, I couldn’t tell you off the top of my head which quirk goes with which browser, I would probably have to work through something to tell you how to do it.

There are also buttons that I still have not pressed and I still haven’t found omega despite it being the the label on the button to press to access the special characters.

Life is full of little mysteries.

I'll take that suggestion and see what we can come up with mapj1‍ ?

For info, there is help guidance available on our Help page (which I agree needs to be in a more obvious and visible position) as well as our Online Community Support forum where you can ask questions on how to use the online community etc.

If you feel there is a need to cover something in greater detail or if there's something you think should be covered in the help guides but isn't then please let me know! More than happy to provide the guidance that's needed. ?
  • Okay, the forum has been off line this afternoon and now its turned the same shade of purple as the 12-volt kitchen under cabinet LED kitchen lights did when I connected them to a 24-volt driver, just before they went up in smoke ?
