The job advert only went up a week ago Zoom? Of course we wouldn't have recruited someone already! The recruitment process can take at least two months when you take into consideration the interview process timelines and the notice period of any successful candidate. We certainly wouldn't have someone already in position within days of the job being advertised... ?

I'm not aware of how many people are 'banging on the door' so to speak as I don't work in our HR dept and are not party to that kind of information... ?

Soft southerners. When I werra lad we saw vacancies advertised ont factory railings. We were in there like a shot to seit forman. No fancy posh "personnel" or "human resources" departments full of over paid under worked souls in those days lass. We had a written quiz to see if we was suitable. You know, Name? Address? Age? Religion? Sex? Next of kin? You know the sort of thing. Some answers were reit funny as I remember.

Then we were asked byit forman if we had operated a Grimshaw No.5 Ferret Fur Fettler machine before. We all said yes. Then we handed in our cards and were put ont shop floor there and then. Straight to work to earnt brass.

    Them were the days.

Them Grimshaw Ferret Fur Fettler machines made a racket. If you had a shed of 20 of them all working together they would make such a din. Tom Oldberry reckoned that they would inspire what he called dance music in the future in German clubs. Little twit.

    My pleasure, Lisa

I spent a bit of time out in Germany as a young engineer, so naturally the local scene was attractive and I kinda like a bit of Techno

That said, I was equally happy drinking good whisky in a smoky bar, chatting up the pretty girls and listening to a bit of Tom Waites - Rain Dogs, anyone ?

    Regards

A real Furring and Fettling machine takes flat metal sheet at one end and produces a profiled section at the other by repeated rolling (furring), and then de-burrs it (part of fettling).
A video of a furring rig that turns flat strip into top hat sections   (Not made by Messrs  Grimshaw,  Ferret & Co. but the set up looks suitably pre HSE  visit)  it does rather look like this one is missing the hopper at the back to collect the chopped off operator's fingers, but at least with all the guards off you can see more clearly the operation of the successive rolling processes. In the EU such a thing would be considerably better guarded, but then you would not see how it works.

The sort of metal channels and things that end up in suspended ceilings can be made this way.

edit I'm sort of waiting for all the off topic drift to be stripped out of this thread and moved to somewhere else.

Shame. What a  loss. So, just what can you say about a job advert that is interesting and entertaining?

  • I agree, remove all the surplurflous comments and banter which should then keep the job offer succinct and responses to the point ......

Well, it appears that there has been no response to the point of being made aware of either a mistake or to clarify since the below was posted on the 12th as the advert appears to remain unchanged from either of its incarnations..............

I'll make my colleagues in the Tech Regs Dept and HR aware that there may be a mistake in the job description or ask them to clarify what's been written.

  • You are not still looking for that elusive beast are you? Just where could it be hiding?
