Solar panel inverter protection unit.

A chap posted a question on Nextdoor asking what a “solar panel inverter protection unit” is.

I said I do not know, but I would enquire. Here’s his explanation of what happened:

”Good morning Andrew, I was cold called to say that my System was due a health check due to it's age as it was about to run out of the Warranty period. At that health check the person explained that the Inverter's were the most delicate part of the system. Then I stooped understanding the explanation. He said that the instillation of an Invertor Protection Unit would solve the problem and extent the life of my system ind improve efficiency”

comments please.

  • A friend of mine had solar panels installed; later the installing company went bust. She then got a call from a company who claimed that they had taken over the maintenance of the inverter to maintain the warranty and that they would do a free annual inspection on behalf of the inverter manufacturer. Said friend booked a visit, an "engineer" inspected the inverter and said that the green light indicated a fault and the inverter would need replacing (for a fee). Friend asked me to have a look. The green LED was just the normal "everything ok" indicator.
