7.2.7 choice of protective device

section ii circuit load characteristics

(a) refers to table 53.1.

This table exists in req but talks about rcds

The table should be 533.1 which deals with relevant information.

  • There are lots of mistakes in the OSG.
  • Hopefully they have all been reported. Save lives?
  • The placement of cables in a wall or partition does not include running along the bottom of walls.

This excludes running behind the skirting board or just above them.

Given I have a concrete floor.

anyone provide me with the reason why this restriction exists !

  • folk have been known to nail skirting boards and things like  carpet grip through cables

Surface mounted cable or trunking or armoured cables in the wall are not limited in their locations.
  • Just the point. If you don’t say that people do it - they assume that it wasn’t done. Save lives- tell them that it is possible - besides the options given cover the situations that you mentioned
  • if the run of a hidden cable was from floor then up to a point then it could run vertically to that point from the floor thereby behind the skirting because it is exactly where you might expect it to be. Horizontally you would not reasonably expect a cable behind the skirting -we do not put sockets in skirtings like we used to years ago.

Corners I dont like , who uses nails/screws less than 2" (50mm) to hold wall units and shelves up etc?

It should not be done, the only exception I make is in log cabins where it’s obvious what has been done.
