In addition, the standards for plugs, socket-outlets and tethered cables, associated with charging, have huge retention force tests to help prevent people being exposed to live conductors if cables are accidentally snagged - typically at least double that of a portable appliance, but increasing with increasing current-carrying capacity.
At least some PHEVs (plug-in hybrids) have insufficient safeguards to prevent charging and refuelling (with petrol or diesel) at the same time.
