Relocation of kitchen so let etc

Hi all was wondering what you all do when asked to relocate sockets during a kitchen refit, specifically where you have made a joint in an existing 2G backbox which is no longer going to be used?

Do you just fit a blanking plate over, let the tiler tile over or terminate in wago connectors and let the plaster bury the joint?

Regards Ts
  • I`d not be happy with it unless all was within zone.

If it`s out of zone pics/documents or not (unless in a controlled workplace) then no.

PS I am not implying that a zone is the be all and end all to Joe public either
  • Is this any different from any cable in a wall? I don't see that it is and therefore cannot see why some think it unsatisfactory. In fact, it is better protected!
  • Dave, if it`s in a wall in a zone or 2" deep then OK. If out of zone and less than 2" deep then no if it`s hidden, is what I meant

  • Doesn't this illustrate a fundamental problem with the zones? If (ordinary) people don't know about them, what good are they? It didn't stop a previous occupier or tradesman drilling or nailing through a cable in daughter's house, nor did it stop her banging in a picture hook directly above a socket. I didn't bring her up that way, but if you are utterly unscientific, why would you give a moment's thought as to how leccy gets to your sockets or wall lights?

    Chris,

i just think it comes down to common sense, there's also a dishwasher adjacent to where one off the joints has been made the cable for which is in copex has its fed from the joint, just a quick check and you'd see the copex and think to yourself it's coming from above. Prior to doing my electrical course I'd always have a quick check by opening an outlet and looking which way the cables ran before drilling, including checking the other side of the wall for electrical points, radiators etc to me it's just something I've always done ?

Just on a side note I've found in past experience that the academic university types as I call them tend to be the ones with zero common sense and not street wise in the least!!?
