Assumed ambient temperature behind cooker? (Cable derating)

Hi,

I have a 40A cooker circuit (Type B RCBO). That would be borderline 6mm2 at <=40C ambient, 10mm2 at higher temperatures.

Does anyone have a rule of thumb for how warm it gets behind a free standing cooker? 40C is quite warm and modern devices are probably better insulated than older one.

Cheers :)

  • Thanks Dave.

I remember in the 70s, our electric cooker's oven took the paint off the wall. Fortunately, things seem to have moved on a bit... ?

    Kind regards,
