Tri-Rated Wire Vs Equipment (Hook Up Wire)

Hi Guys

I have been designing hardware for electrical panels for many years now and generally have always used "TRI-RATED" wire within the enclosure, occasionally and more prevalent recently is the specification for Low Smoke Zero Halogen but what about Equipment Wire?

Has anybody used this within electrical control panels for 24Vdc control voltages, in what applications is this acceptable? I have seen machine builders use it often so therefore as they are following 60204 then is it also possible to use within Control Panels for machinery?

  • Yes, I was not very detailed in that post.

Tri-Rated Wire is generally known as BS6231 and Equipment Wire is generally known as UL1007.

I have seen many uses of Equipment Wire but never specifically in control panels and I wonder why?

    Thanks
