Manufacturer supply problems

Has anyone heard about problems in the supply chain of OCPDs by manufacturers? I heard today, in my local wholesalers, there are massive delays in getting containers into the country, such that some distributors/manufacturers are finding it difficult to fulfill existing orders and are not taking on new orders.
  • I have had a few instances of delays from my wholesaler for fairly basic items
  • LOL.

Hsve you asked for a delivery date for a storage heater lately?

After a few months of being told they will not be available for the “foreseeable future” it has progressed to hopefully the ship will dock this weekend and they will clear customs and get to the warehouse by the 7th December.

When the letting agent who said that I had to get and fit one in 48 hours then said he had got someone else who could get and fit one today I thought to myself crack on son.

I am not even sure they know what a storage heater is or how to install it from what I have seen lately.
  • Then there is the ever helpful Royal Mail sorting office collection office.

  • There have been news reports of container vessels being unable to dock in Felixstowe.
  • Oh yes!

11,000 containers of PPE bunging up the dock, resulting in a ship diverting to Rotterdam then all the lorries having to cross the channel to fetch the cargo with only a few weeks of easy access to Mainland Europe left.
  • I am changing my working practices to try and get around supply and delivery issues with materials.
  • Perhaps it might be a good idea to have products made in the UK?

Just holding some local stock would be a start, rather than fulfilling orders from Mainland Europe.

  • Listening to the news on the radio on my way back from a job today it seems the proposal to scrap Saturday mail deliveries is being considered again.

So if I order a heater thermostat now at 6.36 pm on a Thursday evening unless someone is at home to take delivery of it I won’t get it until next Thursday evening without making a trip to the sorting office to pick it up between 8.00 am and 12.00 noon during the working day and without a Saturday delivery I won’t get it until Monday anyway.

I have ditched paying for Special Delivery, because there isn’t anything Special about it.

However I have customers who are telling me they need things ordered, delivered and fitted within 48 hours, my reply to one such email was simply “I can’t”.
