The only bulb data I can find here suggests very short lifetime (50 hrs) for these sort of higher wattage bulbs. I presume they are under-run if they are being pulsed in time to the music or whatever.

Yep, very short life lamps. But if fan cooled and under run they are great. They also heat up the village hall on a cold night before the dancing starts. The Optikinetics oil wheel projector needs a warm bulb to make the oil move in the "oil wheel" for a Barbarella psychedelic "way out man" effect. Also the children of this age like the old lighting effects for their trance raves.
I don't like the new laser disco party lights. Too much chance of potential eye damage.
It is surprising that the G.E. 4515 lamps are still available (6.3V 30W).. The type with the parallel beam like a searchlight.
I do have some modern L.E.D. disco lights but some effects are not possible with L.E.D.s.
I must dust off the old rope light.
