Small time electrician

Hi.

I’m a fully qualified Level 3 electrician (C&G 2357) and have completed my AM2, 18th edition and everything. I work at a large college, but mainly doing reactive work and small repairs.

I have two questions...


Firstly, I am a small time electrician also, working for friends and doing small jobs (generally minor works and repairs)

Do I need to be registered with one of the main bodies to sign off my own work? I'm sure it has been asked before, but there is no definitive answer.


Secondly, Do I need to go through C&G 2395 Inspection and testing in order to carry out my own IECR’s?

    No, it is not compulsory, but I would certainly put it in the "desirable" column of a person spec. If you can get your employer to fund it as CPD, that would be great.


    Regarding insurance, you ought to have professional indemnity insurance for I&T.
