Boiler Electrics.

Has anyone repaired a gas boiler where the rads. heat up but the hot water is not running properly from taps.

The boiler is an Alpha HECB25. All the electrics seem fine.

  • I just came across this for a model CB24. The one that I was told about is a CB25, but may be similar.

  • Reminds me of one a good few years back.

I was asked by a plumbing/heating firm to investigate a boiler.

Thy had changed the PCB (a very expensive item) and the fault remained.

Boiler tried to fire but shut down after a few seconds if I recall correctly.

As I remember it basically I discovered that a microswitch switch over depending on flue pressure. The thing had a lot of snow in it - it was an exeptionally bad year for snow - it had ruined the microswitch. I one position it put the fan on and once pressure was correct it changed over and ran the boiler. Snow had got in and ruined the microwsitch so all three contacts made. I changed that microswitch and all was well.

The "he" bit in the name means high efficiency, it is a condensing boiler and newer than that one in the vid, so not the same. Did you find the he cb 25 instructions? You can get a fair way through fault finding as an electrician before doing gas "work".

Not sure whether ebee's air pressure switch fault would be picked up in a flow chart, it is very unusual to have continuity through all 3 terminals

  • Just a thought.  I had a similar fault on my WB, the heating was apparently working but the water in the taps was lukewarm and then cold.  There did not seem to be anything wrong, except when the the hot water was turned on the boiler would fire up and then go out.

Then I noticed the little pressure gauge that  indicates the  water pressure in the primary circuit was zero.  Re-pressurised and all well.

Hello David, the pressure is o.k. at just over 1 bar I seem to recall. Anyway it is in the green range of the pressure gauge, but thanks anyway.

    Hello Olympus,

I have been so busy that I have not had a chance to get the fault finding flow chart yet. I did though order a new diverter valve diaphragm repair kit. It is suitable for the Alpha HE 25 and CB33 according to the supplier. It looks the same as the one in the video, and it comes with many new washers and some silicon grease. I may check the micro switch if it is accessible, before any dismantling.

    Thanks,

    Z.
