  • Looking at that transformer fire, if you are interested in the kit,  Buchholz trips, that short the incoming HV when the oil pressure rises, thus blowing expulsion fuses and  removing the incoming supply (or nowadays operating some sort of contactor is preferred), are designed to avoid that chip fat fire explosion sort of thing, and have been a standard thing on large oil filled kit in the UK since just before the war, being developed and patented in Germany by a Mr Max Buchholz in 1921.
