Why does 543.2.3 prohibit the use of a gas pipe or oil pipe as a protective conductor?

  • Presumably because any substantial fault current might damage the pipe and release the  contents, with unfortunate results.


    Also any voltage differences might result in sparks near oil or gas tanks, or near oil or gas burning equipment.
