Safe Disconnection to Undertake Work.

Scene. An old farm building now used as a double glazing frame maker's workshop.


The supply comes from an old shed about 40 metres away, where the meter is. The old shed has some 70s/80s rusty M.E.M. isolators that feed several S.W.A. cables that exist the shed in many directions underground. I suspect that one feeds the main farmhouse, another a rented cottage and the others various farm buildings. There is no clear labelling of the isolators.


What is the best way to locate the frame maker's  building supply where I have to work?


Somewhere I have a circuit i/d set, if I can find it, but that will need access to the live parts and I do not wish to turn off the wrong isolator.

    I suggest you walk Z. You are not the guy to do this kind of thing, and there is little to gain from doing it anyway. In this kind of case, direct DNO kind of experience is very useful as is some more PPE. However, in view of your last post, this is not the job for you. Stay safe.

    Oh ye of little faith! I may be slow and deliberate in my approach to work but I don't like to give up. Most situations can be safely overcome, it was just that initially I did not have the complete picture. I learned a lot this morning before approaching the job just by walking around and quietly observing on my own before opening my tool box. I have done three phase work before and factory maintenance so I am not a complete novice. And...........I kept all of my original hair. No shocks or explosions occurred.
