Light sockets

Something that has puzzled me for years.

Bayonet cap and Edison screw light bulbs can be removed without tools thus exposing potentially live terminals and presenting a distinct shock hazard. made worse by the fact that you often need to stand on a chair to remove the bulb. There are millions of these installed yet the regs seem quite happy with the situation.

Not only are live parts accessible by removing the bulb but most lampholders on reading lamps can be completely dismantled without tools. And most ceiling roses too.

Many years ago my first wife gave herself a shock after dismantlling a reading lamp to see why it wasn't working. Unfortunatly not a fatal one. :-)
