The Inner Parts of a Three Phase Smart Meter.

How many components can you name?

  • Does it sweep up and make the tea as well!

  • An interesting device, but very bulky. It wouldn't fit on my DNO's board.

Could be on to a winner though. Mrs P sweeps up well, but makes bad tea. ?

I was unable to get smart meters fitted because of lack of room on the DNO board.   I was astonished at the size of the unit:  as big as two house bricks. I thought that electronic kit was getting smaller by the day but these sure do buck that trend.

And if the DNOs want to replace dumb meters by smart meters you would have thought that the spec would be for them to have the same footprint, sticking out more if they want to build it from discrete components.

Still, no problem for me since I see no advantage in having one and don't want the DNO to know when I pull their fuse.

The smart meter installed in my office a month ago still hasn't been activated because their “system is down” whenever I contact them

  • Nothing unusual in the components Z, all identifiable but often without numbers nowadays with machine placing, so difficult to do much without the circuit diagrams.

I particularly like the current transformers.

  • I would just like to point out , that smart meters are being installed to save energy , which is kinda odd as for the £60mn installation costs they could have saved energy in a much better way …. Just dont get BEIS strategy at all

Being able to measure the energy usage doesn't actually reduce it.     The real purpose of smart meters is to allow the DNO to control usage and charge differentially.

Might be a good thing but the sales pitch is dishonest
