EV charger on split load

Hi,

I am planning an EV charger install, and intended on using an RCBO directly off the main switch. The issue is that the board is MK, and I am unable to find a C40 with a type A rating for the RCD. I can only find a B40 with a type A, which is no good.

Installing a new board is not an option. I am however able to find a double pole 100A type A RCCB.

Albeit not ideal, is there anything “wrong” on face value with installing the EV onto an RCCB with other circuits (like ring mains). I fully appreciate it isn't ideal for the isolation of circuits should a fault appear, but to me this does provide suitable overload and RCD protection.

Any thoughts otherwise?

Thanks.

I wouldn't really want to share a 30 mA RCD between a car charger and other circuits - the car chargers can have a significant amount of earth leakage and some are quite close to the tripping threshold of a 30 mA RCD on their own. Add in just a few milliamps of leakage from other circuits and you would have nuisance tripping problems.

A Renault Zoe for example leaks 10-12 mA to earth on a single phase charger as soon as the contactor closes. You certainly can't charge two of them on a single 30 mA RCD. Other cars may vary, but they likely all have a similar EMC filter with significant capacitance to earth.
