'Grounding' Sheet plugs

I came across these things the other day:

This is used for a ‘Grounding’ sheet with conductive fibres woven into it that you connect to the earth of a local 13A outlet.  Leaving aside the ‘science’ of any claimed health benefits of sleeping on a 'grounded' sheet, I wonder two things:

1: How compliant to BS1363 such a plug could be, as technically I expect it lacks many of the features required of a 13A plugtop? The best you might hope for would be that the pins (including the plastic ones) are of the correct size so the contacts in the sockets don't get deformed.

2: In a PME installation, with the risk of a broken PEN conductor externally, I'm not sure I fancy sleeping on a sheet that could potentially become live - albeit that if I haven't got a foot or hand out of bed, and everything else connected to earth at the time should theoretically be at the same potential…..

Would you sleep on one of these?

Jason.

  • So it looks like one manufacturer states they have 100k resistance.

The ‘science’ seems to indicate that these products facilitate connection with the ‘massive reservoir of free electrons’ in the earth which allows these to flow to our body to ‘balance the charge of electron-deficient free radicals’ that we all apparently build up!  Clearly you can get enough electrons flowing through a 100k resistor with unknown (but likely very small) potential difference across it to be effective……

Small-scale sponsored studies seem to indicate some benefits - draw your own conclusions…..

….and no I don't have any link with anyone making or selling these products - I only came across them as an industry colleague whom I respect technically has started strongly advocating this stuff.
