The example that OlympusMons has referenced is what I was commenting on. There will be a small capsule of jointing paste at the bottom of each insert. When the wire is inserted, the capsule bursts and paste is pushed up past the conductor, forcing the air out as it goes. The wire is inserted fully when the paste appears at the end of the connector. The wire is then crimped using the appropriate calibrated die and crimp tool.
