27 amp MCBs

I have heard from a not very reliable source, that 27 amp MCBs are used in Australia.

As most of us know, 2.5mm twin with earth cable is good for 27 amps under optimum conditions. It was alleged that the 27 amp MCBs are to allow for electric cookers on 2.5mm.

A quick look on Amazon and fleabay failed to find any 27 amp MCBs which makes me a bit doubtful. 25 amp MCBs are available but not common, and 27 amps offers a very marginal gain in capacity.

  • Without space heating, 7 amps is fine.

A 1 kw or 1.2 kw water heater, with a changeover switch to permit use of a kettle or toaster instead. 6 lamps, mixed wattages, a couple of fans and a radio would be fine with sensible use of the lights, not all on at once.

Could probably supply a fridge if care was taken. A forty watt fluorescent lamp with power factor correction would give a better light than a 100 watt incandescent bulb.
