Bonding

Hi All

I've come to do some work at a property which has no bonding to the gas or water supply. These services enter the house on the other side to the electric supply/CU. Supply is TNCS.

Question is can I run a single 10mm cable around the outside of the house to link to both gas and water supplies. If so can I use a black cable (with green/yellow sleeve at either end) and clip direct to the wall or does it require additional mechanical protection?

Thanks in advance ?

Common practice is to run a green yellow in black conduit. Saves possible UV damage to cable and a chance to fit galvanised metal supporting saddles

Certainly can - although the Code of Practice for Earthing recommends that where the conductor is ‘looped’ through the first clamp it is left unbroken - so that others working on that service (and perhaps having cause to disconnect that clamp) will find it more difficult to accidentally loose bonding to the other service.

That said, if the water/gas come out of the ground in plastic, there might not be any need to bond anyway.

  • Both gas and water are in copper, just never been bonded!
