Electrical CAD

I am hoping to buy software to assist with electrical design in the water industry. I would like to not only do the design but to generate the corresponding test and inspection (NICIEC) tables / certificates.

A few years ago I came across Amtech, which since has been re-branded, that seemed a good application, the only thing it did not have was a module for generating the NICIEC certificates.

In a lot of cases the electrical design includes the sizing of cables and protective devices for plant and equipment installed in the field. There is usually one large control panel / board feeding plant and equipment, which could be upto 100m away.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks, Derek

Have a look at the top of this thread. Modecsoft would appear to meet all your needs. A lot cheaper than Trimble/Amtech and a lot more helpful when requesting advice. Some useful demonstrations on You Tube.

  • I cannot see what you want the software to do, what do you mean NICEIC certificates? Amtec allows one to design most aspects of an electrical installation, but you will still need the installation plans for the electrician. These are usually added to the standard building drawings as an extra layer, with the drawing software (of which there are many kinds) using a suitable symbol library.

If you want the installation test and inspection certificates you can copy these from BS7671, or find them on the IET website. If you want something that says your design is satisfactory, get yourself an Engineer! Even with Amtec there are many areas where a skilled designer is needed, and there are many choices to be made.
