section 714 outdoor lighting -two IP specs understanding

Hello folks - good evening

 

≥ IP 2X stated in 714.411.2.201 (basic protection) when access door open

 

≥ IP 33 stated in 714.512.2.105 (external influences) for electrical equipment

 

Is it to be read as the 33 for when gear is not enclosed and behind access door eg. inside lighting column , where it can be 2X … or ?

    The two clauses are looking at different things. Generally, the enclosure should be at least IP33, which protects against rain and objects > 2.5 mm.

    However, basic protection of IP2X safeguards workers from shock, perhaps when re-lamping. So no naked busbars in there please.
